Is Organic Food Worth It?

When you head to the grocery store, shopping for products like eggs, meat, fish, milk, and produce can be very tricky. Signs are posted everywhere labeling food as natural, organic, and a number of other things—but what’s the difference, really? Learning what specific names mean can help you decide if you should shell out extra [] The post Is Organic Food Worth It? appeared first on Well Fit News Spot. read more »

Besides the fact theres more available information many Americans still do not know that grilling can be unhealthy. The cancer risk from grilling, however, is real, but it changes dramatically with what you grill and how you do it. The problem with traditional grilling comes from the combination of meat with intense heat. Whether you [] read more »

Great Way To Freeze Meat

So one great way to save money on groceries is to buy in bulk when a certain protein goes on sale. To prevent it from going bad we freeze it. But then the problem of freezer burn, meat sticking together and other problems arise. Well, there are ways to avoid this problem. In this case I am separating out chicken thighs. Start out by sorting out how much meat you are going to need. In this case it will be 2 thighs per package. I usually cook 2 at a time, one of me, the other for my husband. Then wr... read more »

Fried Rice

Being Chinese, rice has always been a big part of meal time. Growing up in the US there’s always something about homemade fried rice that makes your American friends want more. The great thing about friend rice is that it is a great dish to make from whatever vegetables and meats you have in your fridge. This is my recipe for it but I will give pointers on how to make it from anything. 3 tbsp canola oil 3 eggs (Beaten) 2 scallions (sliced into 1/2 inch pieces) 1/2 large onion (sliced) 2 carrots (pe... read more »

Roasted Mint Shoulder of Lamb with Potatoes

Roasting a big piece of meat has never been as easy as this and with only 7 ingredients - one of them being the meat and the second potatoes! Life to too short to have tough, overcooked lamb, this not one of those times. This #Eatloveplaywithfood recipe has been inspired by my favourite Australian Chef, Donna Hay, who makes cooking look as easy as it is to breath. I generally shy away from a "big-meat' cook as I don't do them very well ... until now.Instead of using a led of lamb, which can be quite exp... read more »

Pan-Fried Pepper Rump Steak

I believe that the best steaks are served at home, and this is no exception as it is super tender and has an awesome brandy and cream sauce. Being a South African, for us it is all about the meat - and pretty much 5 times a week of it! It might be raining and really cold outside, but that is no excuse for a great steak tonight! All we need to do is say goodbye to the gas BBQ charred option, and hello to a pan-fry creamy sauce one. No problem! This is one of my favourite fast-too dinners where the focus... read more »

Longtime Culinaire, First Time Briner

Lately anytime there's a cooking program, or a cooking spot on a talk show, dealing in pork chops, they brine them. Even in culinary school they didn't mentioned brine and pork chops. Brine for pickling fish, sure (we've actually used brine for pickling fish, so maybe"first time briner" is a bit misleading...). But brine for pork? It's weird, not having heard much about meat brine (outside of making bacon or ham) until recently, weird since brine seems like the answer to doctoring so much bland-tasting m... read more »

Getting My Meat On! @ Green Street Smoked Meats

For your listening pleasure: Reverend Horton Heat Let Me Teach You How to Eat A cancelled appointment and my disdain for waiting in line led me to an early supper. I started my trek in the direction of Green St. in the hopes that I would not find a crowd that resembled the stock exchange floors. It's 6 P.M. and Green St. looks free and clear and all is a go! Chinese Takeaway Curry

I love having a Chinese takeaway, and without any hesitation I will always end up going with a Chicken Curry. I have had so many in my life I would say I can tell a good one from a bad.So when I found out that you could get this delight at home with very little effort I was very eager to try it. So I got the Girlfriend to dig out all the required spices for me, while she got frustrated at my pronunciation of such spices as Cumin and Star Anise and we set about preparing this meal.We decided to go with Ch... read more »

Sausage Casserole

There is nothing worse that being dragged around the shops in the pouring rain, but when it also means that you will end up with a new casserole dish that leads to some yummy food, it is so worth it. After being out in the cold and wet, this was exactly what we needed to fill our bellies with hearty goodness (that's right I said hearty). It is so simple to make and requires next to no effort as it is as easy as putting everything in a pot. This recipe can also be eaten by those who are on a gluten fr... read more »

With Ramadhan just about to knock on our doors, along comes one of the favourite Malaysian things of the fasting month: Ramadhan buffets. Now, it needs to be said that we do not condone stuffing yourselves silly at buffets after a whole day of controlling yourself from primal temptations (defeats the purpose of fasting, no?). The centre of the Horse Meat scandal

The horse meat scandal is something that I've stayed away from commenting properly on until now. The problem has a number of issues and flaws though, that make it interesting to watch. First, there's the issue of trust. If there's horse meat in a product, this should be declared. Everyone agrees to at least that much of the situation. From here, it gets murky. Ask anyone what is in a Free Range, Hand-Reared, 100% Angus Beef Burger and you'd expect the answer to be ONLY beef. Ask any sane person what'... read more »
