Ive also been struggling [] read more »

Giveit100 – what am I focusing on?

Ive started my Giveit100 challenge today: Im going to focus on healthy eating and making sensible food choices for 100 days. This morning I weighed myself. The scales read 67.2kg, which is 148lbs or 10st 8lbs. Its not horrendous, but my goal weight is 10kg (22lbs) lighter, as I want to weigh 126lbs or 9st. [] read more »

New Year’s Resolutions – is it worth making any?

In 2015, I will be: spending more time with my family (whilst also making new friends and expanding my social circle) rekindling my passion for an old hobby (and trying my hand at something new) shifting that extra stone/14lbs/6kg and not giving into any unhealthy temptations whatsoever. Yeah, right. With an estimated 14.5 million adults [] read more »

Koochikoo - the Cutest Cookies Review

I would choose sweet over savory any day, but sweet tends to be less healthy than savory. After all, sugar isn't known for being stomach-friendly in large amounts, nor is it particularly good for your skin, energy levels, or even long-term mood.Koochikoo Cookiesare all the sweet of normal cookies, but without sugar. They're also free of artificial sweeteners and thus actually healthy, as well as free of weird aftertastes (unlike most other sugar-free cookies).Instead of weird chemicals, they're sweetened ... read more »

Sure the packages say " natural", "healthy", but are they really? If you was to check out the labels on these " healthy" snacks, you will still see that chemicals have been added. Eating Out - Greek

Healthy Eating - Greek Roasted lamb and chicken, lemon, yogurt, and herbs like oregano and rosemary are some of the better ingredients featured in this flavorful cuisine. On the other hand, buttery filo-crusted pies, heaps of feta cheese, and pools of olive oil can blow your fat and calorie budget in a hurry. Choose these items most often: 1. Bean and lentil soups; avgolemono (lemon and egg) soup; vegetable soup; fish soups. 2. Shish kabobs made of roasted lamb or chicken and vegetables.3. Baked fis... read more »

Eating Out - French

Healthy Eating - French This cuisine is often heavy in eggs, butter, cheese, and creamy sauces and can be difficult for people who are trying to keep fat within reasonable limits, especially if you're planning on eating the French bread. Many French restaurants also serve some lighter Mediterranean-style items and if you know what to look for, you can actually dine quite healthy. Try these choices to eat healthier. Choose: 1. Consumme and broth-based soups.2. Broiled, steamed, or poached seafood and ... read more »

Eating Out - Chinese

Healthy Eating - Chinese Authentic Chinese food is low in fat and high in nutrients. Traditional dishes feature moderate portions of meat, seafood, poultry, or tofu stir-fried with plenty of vegetables and flavorful sauces. Realize, though, that the Asian-style sticky white rice that accompanies these dishes ranks high on the glycemic index and should be limited. American-style Chinese food tends to be heavier, fattier versions of the traditional cuisine, so it pays to peruse the menu. These are some o... read more »

If you are my friend on Facebook, or follow me on instagram, you will have seen me post an image of my latest and greatest lunch favorite! A while back I found this recipe online, where I'm not sure anymore, but when I saw the pic and saw how easy the recipe was I knew this would be a great easy lunch!I have to say I haven't always been a fan of hummus or avocados (ask my friends when I lived in Texas, they can attest to this). Visual Update #7

01. Beautiful hand picked Forget Me Nots and Cowslips. I've found myself taking so many pictures of flowers and blossom recently as the weather gets nicer! 02. Residing out in the bonnie sticks of Bucks (and having a massive back garden) we often get visits from a plethora of wildlife. Meet this little muntjac munching on one of our flowerbeds. I wish they weren't so timid so I could have got a closer look! 03. Last weekend I made the voyage to Asda (a cheap and cheerful haven of a supermarket) and bro... read more »

An Old Classic With A Healthy Twist

I love a quick meal, especially one that yields leftovers to keep me stocked in chicken legs for the month. This is my version of that old classic shake and bake. All you do is toss the ingredients into a plastic bag, shake it up and then bake. You can of course use this recipe with any cut of chicken but the drumsticks are a really good value and they are very flavorful. They also make great party foods because it comes with it’s own handle! You can serve them for the big game. You can also change up the... read more »

My birthday present

Zakir got me a new gadget for my birthday, something I had been contemplating buying about a year or so ago, but decided against, because of the variable reviews online. But the reviews have improved, and the device has been updated. And now I am an owner of a brand new fitbit. It is a pedometer with some interesting features. At first I was skeptical; when your spouse buys you a fitness/weight loss gadget for your birthday, it sounds like a not-so-subtle hint. But it has come with some unexpected positi... read more »

Healthy Eating

I think I have found a new favorite cookbook. Actually it will be my favorite after I get over the shock of how high the calorie, fat and sodium content is in some of my favorite restaurant foods, ugh! Right now I'm a bit in awe. For example (what used to be) my favorite Spinach and Mushroom Omelette from IHOP is a whopping 910 calories, with a 71g (*cough, cough, choke, choke*) total fat content (26g of it is saturated) and 1580mg of sodium. To my credit one omelet for me is usually three meals, but st... read more »
