6 Ways to Get Mentally Fit for the New Year

With the start of a new year, it is important to reflect back on the prior year, assess what went well, what didn’t and decide where you want to go next. It takes a lot of mental toughness, self-love, and discipline to create the life you want. Simply coasting along on cruise control reacting to life can lead to victim mentality and stagnation, which is something I have experienced first hand.Dr. Sanam Hafeez PsyD,a New York City-based licensed clinical psychologist, teaching faculty member at Columbia U... read more »

We Have One Shot at This

I've been away for awhile and, admittedly, it has been an odd and difficult last several weeks. In this time though, I've had the fortune (some at least) of a new realization. This new - yet so obvious - notion is that we really just have one chance to get ourselves right. What kind of pressure is that? My grandmother very recently passed away after having lost a bout with pneumonia, a bout that largely occurred because of inactivity. For as amazing of a woman as she was (and she truly was), many of ... read more »

Times are Tough, But Keep Pushing!

Almost Back in Shape

Swimsuit: Sassa || Sunnies: SPRINTO || Coverup: Gift So there you go! I started working out and dieting when Leon turned 10 months. 6 months after my decision, I am now weighing 120lbs from 10lbs. Still a bit far from my 2013 body (108 lbs) but I'm currently struggling to lose more weight. If you have noticed, my tummy, legs and thighs are still heavy while my arms and face are shrinking. Its probably the carbs and the sweets that I still cannot let go. I hope you liked my post! :) Much Love, TBD read more »

Please Make Fitness Fun!

Tony Horton made a plea in P90X3 to 'please make fitness fun!'. Gotta say something I find myself saying pretty darn often, Tony Horton's totally right. For nearly all of the population, working out is not their job and, thus, many people even see it as a hobby. Hobbies are supposed to be fun, right? When they're not fun anymore, no matter how challenging or enriching, they just cease to be a part of our daily rituals. So many people quit because the workouts fall out of habit, but what might be one of ... read more »

Headphones In, World Off

All bad workouts begin with forgetting an iPod, headphones, or an updated workout playlist. Overhead music at a gym can't account for your specific tastes and what motivates you to be at your best. I imagine it's much of the same way for so many runners, I'm more of a silent runner myself, but still, without the proper ambiance, your workout can start to feel pretty unsuccessful. Aristotle once wrote:"Music directly represents the passions of the soul. If one listens to the wrong kind of music, he will ... read more »

A tale of a two month slump!

It appears to me that two months seems to be my "go-to" number in regards to the length of my post hiatus'. That must change. Now!This, my blogsphere folk, is going to be an honest overview. To be fair, I'm always pretty open right?! However, I have no qualms in saying I have endured a wretched couple of months...personally. Being Healthy Will Be The Death Of Me

I am falling apart. My body is crumbling into nothing more than a pile of human dust. Granted, it is ruggedly handsome human dust, but human dust nonetheless. Flex Belt, the laziest workout ever

I am writing this while I enjoy a glass off wine and tone my abs. Hell yeah! I recently applied to write a review for The Flex Belt and was lucky enough to have this neat, little contraption sent my way. Admittedly, I avoided the thing like the plague for a bit because I was nervous about how it would feel, if I could put it together properly and whether or not I would have to write an awful review for a company that has, thus far, been a pleasure to deal with. It comes in a lot of pieces, as you can... read more »

Writing and Running for ME/CFS #4

English: Man running (Photo credit: Wikipedia)A slight interruption to the programme today. I should have had a 20 minute brisk walk followed by 3 lots of running for 2 minutes and walking for 1. Tuesday was a 30 minute easy walk, which is never a problem, as my wife and I do this most days. On Friday, I did my first run for 10 minutes and covered a little over a mile. However,on Friday night, my daughter rang to say she'd cutherself on some broken glass at work (she works as a waitress in an Italian Rest... read more »

Writing and Running for ME/CFS #3

Today's route, run twice.Just back from my training session this morning. Toughest, so far. Had to do 3 mins running followed by 1 min walking with 6 repeats. Sweating now, though.Must do my stretches before I shower, and let myself cool down a little, of course.Still on track. This week's programme consisted of Tuesday - 6 minute easy run, followed by 2 minute easy walk done twice. Friday, 25 minute brisk walk, in which I did the walk Valerie and ... read more »
