5 Reasons Why Debt Can Sometimes Be a Good Thing

content discovered on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in

Yes, debt sucks. No one wants to be in debt because it usually means we owe someone money, and that means paying it back out of our own pocket. No one likes the idea of a bad credit rating either. If you fail to pay your bills on time then you might end up ruining your credit score or potentially landing yourself in even more trouble. It goes without saying that having a debt to pay off is a situation no one wants to be in, but there are some positives to debt that you may not realise. To make it clear... read more »

New Year, New Map, Better Compass?

content discovered on Monday, January 1, 2018 in the writing life, dreams, family, hope, writing

The year has dawned like a magnificent sunrise over an expansive ocean, with a freshness like clean linen, the newness of a tightly folded flower bud, and the secrecy of a locked treasure chest. I’m giddy over the endless possibilities of what lies ahead. – The Portrait Writer, 1 Jan. 2017 I just read my [] read more »

The Perfect Starbucks

content discovered on Monday, January 1, 2018 in

It's 2018, and people around the world are making resolutions, pledging to do better, be better, in this new year. There are a lot of things I could put on that list, but they would all pale in comparison to what I achieved on December 29, 2017. On that date in history, I found the perfect Starbucks.I wasn't looking for it - but good things often happen when you least expect them. It wasn't even my goal to achieve. My daughter has been on this quest all year, driving from east Cobb to east Atlanta to fin... read more »

Word of the Month for January 2018: Process Server

content discovered on Monday, January 1, 2018 in

Once upon a time, long before I became an omnipotent law Librarian, I was a process server. I dodged bullets, cars, and swinging fists of fury and I learned pretty quick that people really don't like process servers. They don't like them because most process servers are handing out bad news (i.e. you're being sued). One time I had to server process on a police officer whose wife was divorcing him. He hid behind his badge for weeks. Finally, I was able to catch up to him and as I handed him the legal docum... read more »

Yes, I Was

content discovered on Monday, January 1, 2018 in

Image credit The sun has set on the first day of the new year. I look back on the year that passed. I pause and reminisce the good things, and the not so good things. I have been blessed to have a fairly good 2017. I stayed relatively healthy, except for a bad cold around Christmastime. I had great opportunities to earn and keep my finances afloat. I went back re-read my article, "My Word For the Year." I wanted to know if I did fulfill it and gave meaning to my chosen word, which was "BE." After ... read more »

Happy New Year

content discovered on Sunday, December 31, 2017 in

Is it really the end of the year already? Seems like only yesterday that 2017 was beginning (although I couldn’t tell you what I was doing, so indistinguishable from one another as these things have become) and I was considering what the new year would bring. And what did it bring? A lost manuscript which, for several months, caused me great consternation until a hard copy turned up, hidden away beneath piles of comics and books; in February, a new house – soon to be demolished to make way for the rathe read more »

2017: The Ride

content discovered on Saturday, December 30, 2017 in

The year of 2017 was so far the most unpredictable I had so far. It was as if I was riding a roller coaster with my humps, sharp turns and swings. I would want it to be more predictable such that changes happened at a reasonable pace. I can not complain though that much because the year was good for me in terms of my career, but okay it was far from perfect. Why? This is the focus of this blogpost. Relationships The year seemingly started very well. I celebrated it with two of the most important person... read more »

Top 5 movie-going moments of 2017

content discovered on Friday, December 29, 2017 in

Again, not a whole lot of rare or unusual things happened at the movies this year, but there were some rare and unusual movies. 5. Talk of the Town at the Astoria Historical Society. It wasn't exactly a large crowd - it wasn't even a crowd - but Sandi and I enjoyed the movie nonetheless, we made a new friend, and the day on the whole was pleasant. I think the Society gets more people at screenings when they're tied to a major event of some sort. This wasn't. It's okay, though. 4. Rebecca at Vija's plac... read more »

DIVIDEND PORTFOLIO LOOKING GOOD FOR 2018!

content discovered on Thursday, December 28, 2017 in

Although I can't say with any certainty what the new year holds for the stock market, as long as I'm not faced with a lot of dividend cuts, my portfolio should do quite well in 2018. A quick projection of future income shows that simply reinvesting dividends will produce a 10% gain in monthly dividend income by the end of 2018! While that's exciting in itself, I'll most likely be adding additional cash to current holdings, boosting income substantially throughout the year. A downturn in the market would ... read more »
